CEF of Peninsula sent five teenagers to a week-long Christian Youth in Action (CYIA) training camp at Eagle Eyrie Conference Center from Sunday, June 20, to Saturday, June 26.
CYIA is a program designed to train teenagers and young adults in effective and engaging ways to teach children about God. This includes methods to present the Gospel clearly on a child’s level, counsel a child for salvation and lead a dynamic club ministry for kids. Components of this club include teaching a Bible lesson, a real-life missionary story and a Bible verse as well as leading songs, games and a fun review time. Go to CYIA to read more.
After completing training, the team will go to the children where they naturally gather to conduct 5-Day Clubs. This could be at someone’s home, a local park, an apartment building, or the YMCA.
The days are long and rigorous. The teens get up at 7:00 p.m. for personal or group devotions, then breakfast at 8:15. The day is filled with classes, study, practice for practicums, and praise and worship. They do get a two-hour-and-forty-five-minute break for free time during the day (pool, hangout, volleyball, games, and ice cream shop, to name a few activities.) Many of the teens choose to study during their free time. The day ends at 10:00 p.m. after a thirty-minute praise and worship session and lights out at 11:00 p.m.
After completing training, the team will go to the children where they naturally gather to conduct 5-Day Clubs. This could be at someone’s home, a local park, an apartment building, or the YMCA. The team usually provides two or three clubs per day, five days in a row. This process continues again at different locations for as many weeks as the Lord provides for His children. By going to the children to share the Gospel message of salvation, we are more likely to reach unsaved and unchurched children.
Our Peninsula team, led by Dianne Tate, started 5-Day Clubs on Monday July 5th. They have two locations scheduled in York County Virginia and began the day with eleven children at the morning session and two at the afternoon session. Another 5-Day Club will be held in Northumberland County from July 19 to July 23, led by adults.
Praise God for what He does to equip those who choose to serve Him. To God be the Glory.
Soli Deo Gloria,
Kevin Mooers
