Aren’t you glad that God delights to reveal Himself to men, women, boys, and girls?
Without His taking that first step, we would never know the love and grace that God offers through faith in His Son.

When explaining the gospel to children with the Wordless Book, it sometimes helps to remember that the order is – GOD, then Man; GOD, then Man.

Gold page – GOD created the world, including you!
God is perfect; He never does anything wrong.
Because God is a just judge, He must punish sin.
Still, He loves you and wants to have a forever friendship with you.

Dark page – MAN (every person) is born with a want-to to rebel, to sin.
That sin separates you and me from a holy God.

Red page – GOD made a way for sinful people to come back to Him.
He send His Son, Jesus, to die for all sin – yours and mine.
Jesus was buried. (proof He was dead)
Jesus rose from the grave! (proof He conquered sin and death)

Clean page – MAN has a choice to turn from doing things his way (repent)
and to believe that Jesus’ death was meant for him/her, too!

God initiates; man responds. What response is appropriate?

In a simple statement, Jesus declares the response God is looking for is faith – believing that God has done what He said he would do.

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
Mark 1:13

The apostle John was clear about his purpose in writing both his gospel account and letters to churches:

“but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
John 20:31

“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.”
1 John 5:13

Let’s be clear as we teach children that God’s plan to send Jesus to die for sin was the only way to offer forgiveness.

God stands ready to welcome a child into His forever family by grace through faith – not by being good enough. He can know that he has eternal life now and will one day be with Jesus. That is what grace is all about!
