The Gold Page was a hot topic of discussion at Northumberland Elementary School after the first Good News Club was held there. A guidance counselor was talking to a second grade class that week and asked the children to name their favorite color.
Several of the GNC kids quickly shouted “Gold!” and she was somewhat surprised and asked why they liked gold. They recited the entire Gold Page [Wordless Book] lesson – God created the whole world, He is perfect, and God loves everyone, but hates sin. The counselor was really impressed with their understanding. The teacher of that class also talked about it with the other teachers.
“So cool that our kids are sharing the gospel with the rest of the children,” said Judy Mooers, a GNC Leader.
The kids got it! The Creator of everything loves people even when they are still doing wrong. He loves so much He sent Jesus.1 Romans 5:8
Many adults miss this truth, or try to twist it. Two lies that can keep us from God are:
- “I need to earn God’s love by doing good things.”
- “God can never love me, I have lived for myself and hurt so many people.”
What does Jesus say He wants us to do as a response to His rescue mission?
Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe the gospel.”2
“So cool that our kids are sharing the gospel with the rest of the children,
Children know they do wrong things. When they hear that God loves them more than they can imagine, they readily respond to truth with their childlike trust. Jesus sets their example as the one to follow in order to enter His kingdom.
And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you change and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:2-3
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
Let’s join the children in trusting that God loves in a supernatural way. His love meant sacrificing His child for you and me so we can live. That kind of love is hard to imagine and way beyond our capacity. All we can do is turn around and believe.
That’s a message worth sharing to all, especially to children who are eager to hear!
