Two Teams of Teens for 5-Day Clubs in July 2022
Imagine a group of 18 children in your backyard singing praises to God, listening with rapt expressions to a Bible lesson, then playing games around a 9-foot parachute.
That is a 5-Day Club.
The Lord called six teens and two adult coordinators to take part in our summer 5-Day Club ministry this year. The theme of the week was Turned Around: Lessons from Zacchaeus, Mephibosheth, Noah, Saul and the Ethiopian treasurer – men whose lives were turned around by God’s grace.
With two teams of teens and 2 adult coordinators, our Chapter was able to have 3 weeks of club in two locations:
Williamsburg
The teens held clubs in 4 homes and 2 large apartment complexes. The first club of the summer was in a new neighborhood and only two children came. The 5DC team of 4 presented the club lessons with enthusiasm each day. Do you think those kids felt special?
One home in particular had such an attentive and excited group of kids that the teens loved seeing them each day. Both teens and children were sorry to see the week end.
On Monday at one apartment complex, no children were there at the starting time of the club. Coordinator, Dianne Tate, gathered the teens and 4 adults to pray. When the prayer ended, 3 children showed up. The club grew in number through the week to 15. As soon as one little boy saw the team arrive, he ran as fast as he could to get there and always knew his Bible memory verse.
The Lord planted seeds of truth in all the children’s lives.
Newport News and Hampton
This summer of clubs was a challenge for Valerie as she stepped into a team coordinator position. The first week, her team of teens held 3 clubs each day; the smallest had 7 children, the largest 35! It was a growing experience and the team did well, relying on their training to keep the club fast-paced.
Altogether, the teens led 11 week-long clubs in a 3-week period! Through lots of fun songs, games, and Bible lessons, a total of 130 children heard both the Gospel and a Christian growth message each day. Thirty-five children wanted to hear more about how to trust Jesus and 5 children prayed to receive Jesus as their Savior!
Praise God for His great love for children and His desire for them to come to Him!
