Sonship now and yet to come
Two of the boys in our Good News Club were christened the “Car Brothers” by our teen helper. She was the one who noticed that both boys had names of car models. The boys are busy and ready to wrestle each other – or anyone else given a chance.
They are also bright and thoughtful, asking questions that are beyond their years, “What animal has 6 senses?” We were stumped. It turns out quite a few when counting echolocation, electroreception, geomagnetism, and polarization: bats, sea turtles, the platypus, sharks, migrating birds, and more.
At one of the last club meetings of the 2024, a teacher asked the children, “What is one thing you are thankful for this year?” One of the Car Brothers answered, “I now have a family.” When the teacher asked what that meant to him, he explained that they were just adopted by the couple who were fostering him and his brother.
We rejoice with the brothers and are praying that they will also come to realize that God stands ready to adopt them into His forever family.
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
John 1:12
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.
