Last month – July 11, 2024, to be exact – marked the 23rd anniversary of public schools being open for Good News Clubs!
In Milford School District vs Good News Club, the United States Supreme Court determined that “CEF must be given equal access to the schools on the same basis as every other organization.” That decision opened the door for the Bible to go back into the public schools!
In response to the COVID pandemic, schools closed on March 15, 2019, and all Good News Clubs were sidelined. In fall of 2021 school districts began to slowly reopen to after-school clubs.
Now we again have the opportunity – truly a miracle from our Lord – to teach children about the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the school setting. Praise Him!

The urgency of reaching children where they are is great.
- We should never believe that just because we live in America our religious freedoms cannot be taken away. Our culture is rushing away from God and His word, and we have the privilege and duty to engage our culture with the truth of God’s Word.
- The children who attend our schools are the most likely to respond to the gospel. Of those who profess Christ today, 85% came to Christ prior to their 15th birthday. Now is the time to turn children toward the Lord.
- CEF of Peninsula is praying to have a Good News Clubs in 1/3 of the 81 schools in our area by 2025. That means an increase of 15 new clubs in counties/cities from Hampton to Northumberland.
- God’s people – His Church – are the ones He is calling to adopt a school and reach out to children in your neighborhood!
- Just think – the children who were in the first grade when the door opened for Good News Clubs in 2001, are now 28 years old! Where are they now? Have they heard and believed that Jesus loves them?
In Benson’s Commentary, the verse in Revelation 3:8 reads like this: ‘I have given you power and opportunity of spreading my gospel, which none can hinder you from doing.” The only question is, “Are you willing?”
